Regularly During School Hours
Library– Volunteering in the library is a great way for Patton parents to support our school AND be directly involved with the students. Even with only a couple hours a week, you can help students pick and check out books, check in and reshelve returned books, and help make events like our fall and spring book fairs possible. On-the-job training is provided and no previous experience is required to help in the library. To volunteer contact our Library Volunteer Coordinator, Chandra Broat, at librarycoordinator@pattonpta.org.
Work Room– Volunteering in the PTA Workroom is a great way to help and get to know our teachers and staff. Workroom duties include checking the daily work request boxes and completing the jobs submitted by teachers and staff. Examples include: making copies, stapling, laminating, cutting, making die-cuts, making & binding books, and more. You will be trained on all the Work Room equipment, so you’ll quickly become an expert! The volunteer schedule is very flexible; come in for 10 minutes, an hour, or more per week! To volunteer email our Work Room Chair, Kelli Brinkkoeter, at workroom@pattonpta.org.
Cafeteria- Volunteers are needed in our cafeteria every day of the week. Volunteers help to make sure students are using good cafeteria behavior and assist when students need napkins, utensils, or help opening food items. You can help in the cafeteria as often or as little as you’d like! Visit our Volunteer Sign-Ups page to begin.
Occasionally During School Hours
Coffee Cart & Hospitality Committee- The Hospitality Committee is in charge of feeding and pampering our staff. From the back-to-school teacher breakfast, to coffee cart days, catered lunches, and Teacher Appreciation Week chair massages, hospitality volunteering is a fun way to say thank you to our staff and get to know our school a little better.
Volunteer sign ups are published a few weeks before each event on our Volunteer Sign-Ups page. If you would like more information on volunteering or supporting our Hospitality events please contact our Hospitality Chair, Theresa Furstenberg, at hospitality@pattonpta.org.
Picture Days take place in the fall and spring. Volunteers assist at each camera station and help to move students through the line orderly and efficiently. Volunteer sign ups are published a few weeks before the date. Make sure you’re a PTA member so you never miss an email with volunteer opportunities.
Book Fairs take place in the fall and spring and last approximately a week. There are many volunteer shifts to choose from to fit your availability. Volunteer sign ups are published a few weeks before the date. Make sure you’re a PTA member so you never miss an email with volunteer opportunities.
School Store Pop Ups are an opportunity for families to buy Patton apparel, yard signs and yearbooks. We hold them occasionally in the morning at drop off time, in the afternoon at pick up time, or during school events. We are looking for a few volunteers to assist with sales, set up, and break down. If you are interested in assisting further in this area, we could use occasional help with inventory or filling online orders. To volunteer email our School Store Chair, Lauren Kahn, HERE.
Room Parent- Room Parents are an invaluable part of the Patton community. Room Parent responsibilities will vary from teacher to teacher so talk to your child’s homeroom teacher if you’re interested. Some common Room Parent duties include helping to plan class events, coordinating supply donations from parents, sharing PTA information over email with class parents, and organizing group gifts during holidays, birthdays, and Teacher Appreciation Week. A large majority or room parent duties can be done remotely and all “jobs” don’t fall on room parents – the role is to help facilitate help from the entire classroom. If you’re interested in being a Room Parent please let your child’s teacher know or reach out to our Room Parent Coordinator, Katie Boshart, at pattonroomparent@gmail.com.
Cafeteria- Volunteers are needed in our cafeteria every day of the week. Volunteers help to make sure students are using good cafeteria behavior and assist when students need napkins, utensils, or help opening food items. You can help in the cafeteria as often or as little as you’d like!
Arts Day- Arts Day is a 20+ year old tradition at Patton and usually takes place in the spring. This is a fun event to be a part of and volunteer spots fill quickly! Sign ups will be posted to our Volunteer Opportunities page and will be available first come first serve. Make sure you’re a PTA member so you don’t miss announcements about Arts Day.
Remotely
Yearbook- Did you know the Patton Yearbook is created entirely by the PTA? Volunteers work directly with the publishing company to design the yearbook, as well as take pictures, recruit corporate sponsors, organize class photos, and promote and distribute the printed yearbooks. If you are interested in helping students memorialize their awesome Patton experiences, please reach out to our Yearbook Chair, Mindy Chenoweth, at yearbook@pattonpta.org
Sponsorship Committee- Our Sponsorship Committee solicits local businesses who would like to be sponsors of our PTA. The sponsorship program brings in a significant portion of our yearly budget, so this is an important task. We are looking for committee members to help with reaching out to new businesses and following up with contacts. The time commitment is about one hour per week and can be done on your schedule. If you’d like to help please email pattonpta@gmail.com
Arts Day- Be a part of this 20+ year old Patton tradition! Patton’s Arts in Education Committee is looking for 2-3 committee members to help with Arts Day preparation, organizing, and implementation. Arts Day is a school-wide all-day event that takes place each spring, where we bring in artists from musicians and dancers to puppeteers and magicians to entertain and educate our entire student body. Committee members will help with planning and scheduling artists during the fall. The time commitment in the fall is only a few hours total. From late March until the event date, there’s more to do- getting volunteers lined up for the day, food for the artists arranged, and final scheduling. This ends up being a few hours a week during the last 5-6 weeks. There may be occasional in-person tasks or meetings and, of course, the event itself. To volunteer contact Arts in Education Chair, Natalie Cantrell, HERE.
Community Events- Do you love planning events? Our community events are an important piece of what makes our school culture so special. This committee is seeking members to help with creative concepting, identifying potential partners and reaching out to businesses and organizations. There are occasional planning meetings which are held virtually. Additionally, we could use day-of volunteers, but that’s not a requirement of being on the planning committee. To join this committee contact Community Events Chair, Katrina Kincaid, at events@pattonpta.org.
Silent Auction Support- Our Silent Auction is our largest fundraiser of the year and makes it possible for our PTA to do what we do! We are seeking volunteers to help contact businesses to request donations, follow up with previous contacts, and on occasion pick up donations from local businesses. The timing is very flexible and tasks can be done on your schedule. Our Silent Auction is taking place November 10-12, so October through early November will be the busiest times for this role. The commitment is only for a few months and will conclude once the auction is over. To volunteer contact our VP of Fundraising, Brittany Platt, HERE.
Healthy Lifestyles/Track & Field Planning- Patton’s Healthy Lifestyles Committee is on the lookout for 1-2 members to assist in our mission to build a healthy school, healthy families, and a healthy community. Healthy Lifestyles helps promote all areas of health: physical, mental, and social/emotional, and also raises awareness on issues like bullying, childhood obesity, stress reduction, and more. This committee also partners with our PE department to support their goals and needs, including the planning and execution of Patton’s Track & Field Days. We are hoping to find at least one committee member who is interested in writing short pieces on Healthy Lifestyles topics for our social media and newsletter on occasion. If this interests you please email pattonpta@gmail.com.
Scholarship Committee- Each year Patton PTA awards scholarships to graduating seniors who attended Patton. Our scholarship committee needs members to review applications, read essays, and score them based on provided criteria. The review period takes place over a few weeks in April and then the commitment is complete. This is a nice low-commitment, short- term way to contribute to our community. If you’d like to participate as an application reader please email pattonpta@gmail.com.
Parent Education Committee- This committee is looking for a few members to help brainstorm and research possible topics, speakers or programs for parent education events. Tasks and committee communications can all be done remotely. To join this committee email Parent Education Chair, Liz Ferguson, HERE.
