Texas Folklife Cultural Heritage Relative Survey
“PATTON STORIES”

Texas Folklife is a statewide non-profit organization dedicated to preserving and presenting the diverse cultures and living heritage of the Lone Star State. Through their youth education program, Stories From Deep in the Heart, they produce audio stories (podcasts) based on customs and traditions, and oral storytelling. The Stories program is an award-winning in depth folklore and audio documentary training for Austin and Central Texas high public school students and teachers. You can hear some of the many stories on the Texas Folklife Soundcloud channel.
Patton PTA Arts and Education has partnered with Texas Folklife to create a piece of Patton history. Your 3rd, 4th or 5th grade student should have already brought home a survey packet from Arts Day and Texas Folklife. To participate, please answer this survey with your Patton student. Stories must encompass a custom and/or traditions relevant to the Patton student population. If your student chooses to participate, these submissions can be turned into the teacher or to the front office. These packets are due by or on Feb 12, 2020.
This serves as an entry into a school-wide contest for your interview to be selected to be recorded, edited, and published on the Texas Soundcloud. Recorded interviews will be between the person filling out the survey and the student. The “Patton Stories” will debut at Patton Arts Day on March 13 hosted by the Patton PTA. We welcome you to share more about your cultural heritage with the students at Patton!
