Thanks to the hard work of the teachers and students on the Patton Eco-Team, Patton Elementary has been awarded the prestigious Green Flag award for Exceptional ‘Green’ Achievement!
Patton Elementary was recognized by the National Wildlife Federation’s Eco-Schools USA program for exceptional achievement in ‘greening’ physical structure and grounds, conserving natural resources and integrating environmental education into curricula. Patton is the very first elementary school in Austin ISD and only the second elementary school in Texas to earn the Green Flag, Eco-Schools USA’s highest honor. Patton is the 4th school so honored in Texas, and the 76th in the nation to earn the Green Flag award.
In order to receive the Green Flag, Patton students worked on a variety of projects – from conducting energy audits of classrooms to installing and maintaining pollinator gardens. Students also inventoried Patton’s ecosystem by counting and identifying trees and wildlife and then found ways to increase our biodiversity.
Stay tuned for more details about the Green Flag award ceremony on May 19.
